AU Deals: Deep Cuts on Star Wars, Assassin’s Creeds, Dooms, CODs, FromSoftware Must Owns, and More!

Whether you’re padding out your backlog or on the prowl for an absolute steal, my bargain list for today is buckling under the weight of some truly sweet picks. From revamped retro gems to blockbuster sagas at pocket-change prices, the sale bins are anything but boring. So let’s stop talking in favour of scrolling and saving…

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m celebrating the 33rd birthday of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, a fighter whose industry impact cannot be overstated. Obviously, 1991’s World Warrior was the opening jab, but the Champion Edition revision was a $2.3 billion leg sweep that put Capcom in the top three highest-grossing arcade games of all time list. Nineties gaming gromets like myself queued outside of arcades for the $1 privilege to play this, thanks to its mirror match permissiveness, playable bosses, balance tweaks, and more unique takes on Ryu and Ken.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch fans should absolutely pounce on Panzer Dragoon: Remake for just three bucks. Originally launched on the Sega Saturn in 1995, the game’s surreal aesthetic was partly inspired by the French comic artist Moebius (who also contributed early concept art). Meanwhile, Life is Strange: Arcadia Bay Collection delivers two emotive, time-warping tales, one of which was inspired by a real-life missing persons case in Oregon that deeply moved the devs at Dontnod.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Over on Xbox Series X, Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed is a campy delight, with its tongue-in-cheek Cold War setting and a probing sense of humour. The remake even lets players free-roam in pairs (a new feature requested by fans of the original). Then there’s an 11 buck Anno 1800 Deluxe Edition, whose intricate economy was balanced with the help of real-world urban planners and historians.
