The Best PS5 SSD Deals: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB SSD With Heatsink for Only $140.99
PS5-compatible SSDs have been dropping in price pretty consistently since the beginning of 2022. If you want to upgrade your PS5’s internal storage without compromising on speed, any old SSD just won’t cut it. You’ll want to pick up an PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 solid state drive with a rated 5,500MB/s read speed. A heatsink is also highly recommended. You could either get one without heatsink and add it yourself, which is very easy to do and only costs about $10 on Amazon, or you could buy one with one preinstalled.
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 SSD with Heatsink
Today Only Deal (PS5-Compatible)
Samsung SSDs need no introduction, and the EVO 980 PRO is the best of the best. It is fully PS5 compatible in terms of form factor and performance, with blistering speeds of up to 7,100MB/s. It goes toe to toe with other (more expensive) options like the WD Black SN850 and the Seagate Firecuda 530. It even comes with a pre-installed heatsink that’s beefier than the ones you’ll find from other brands and still fits comfortably in the PS5 bay. With this discount from Newegg, the heatsink model is actually cheaper than the non-heatsink model.
PS5-Compatible 1TB SSD Storage Under $130
If you want to upgrade your PS5’s internal storage without compromising on speed, any old SSD just won’t cut it. You’ll want to pick up an PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 solid state drive with a rated 5,500MB/s read speed. All of these SSDs fill all the requirements for the PS5 and have a price tag under $130. Some of the drives may not include a built-in heatsink. A heatsink is recommended, so make sure you get a cheap $10 PS5-compatible heatsink on Amazon.
WD Black SN850 M.2 SSD
The WD Black SN850 is the most popular brand for upgrading your PS5 SSD. It’s blazing fast drive with transfer speeds rated at up to 7,000 MB/s and a PCIe Gen4 interface. This particular model doesn’t include a built-in heatsink, but you can pick up a $10 heatsink on Amazon and install it yourself. Currently the model with built-in heatsink costs $40 more.
XPG ATOM 1TB M.2 SSD with Heatsink
The XPG ATOM boasts read speeds of up to 5,000MB/s. That’s just slightly below the PS5’s read speed recommendation of 5,500MB/s. It’s doubtful that you’ll notice the performance difference. It will definitely work in your PS5 since it meets all other necessary requirements and it even includes a thin aluminum heatspreader that won’t interfere with the PS5 top lid.
All PS5 SSD Options in Stock
There are several more fully compatible PS5 SSD options for you to choose from. In addition to the drives listed above, there are some good choices from Seagate, Crucial, Patriot, Sabrent, and AData. The Firecuda 530, for example, is actually considered the fastest drive compared to all the other models listed here. Crucial has been in the solid state storage market forever. AData actually owns XPG (but you can choose the AData SSD if you want a better matching heatspreader).
