New LEGO Sets Are Available: Horizon Forbidden West, Groot, Muppets

It’s a new month, which generally means a new batch of LEGO sets is now available. May 2022 is no exception, so you can now pick up LEGO sets or minifigures based on Horizon: Forbidden West, Groot, and The Muppets. It’s a good day to be a LEGO collector.

As often happens with highly sought-after LEGO sets, the Horizon: Forbidden West set sold out very quickly at all of the retailers that got stock. At the time of this writing, only Amazon has it available for purchase for the MSRP of $79.99, but it’s backordered. Better than paying a third-party seller $200 via Walmart, though, right?

Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy can now pick up a pretty neat set based on Groot, the beloved sentient tree character who can speak just one word. Unlike the others, the I am Groot set is now available for preorder. It won’t ship until August 1, but you can secure the set for yourself right now.

It’s based on the scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Baby Groot dances adorably. This set is movable and posable, with hinges on the shoulders and elbows, so you can make it dance. It also comes with a nameplate for display, plus a plastic cassette tape of “Awesome Mix Vol. 2.”

Everyone loves the Muppets — I mean, how could you not? Jim Henson’s creations have maintained popularity for decades, and now you can pick them up in LEGO minifigure form.

The catch is that they’re only available in blind bags, so you don’t know which ones you’re going to get until you open them. You can buy these minifigures individually for $4.99 each, or in sets of six for $29.94. Either way, it is possible to get doubles, so tread carefully if that’s a worry.

The one tip/trick you could try if you’re interested in collecting the full set is to head to a brick-and-mortar store that has them in stock and feel the bags to try to identify which character is inside before heading to the checkout counter. It’s not an ideal way to buy Muppets minifigures, but if you don’t want to pay for duplicates, it’s pretty much the only way, short of buying a set on eBay (for a significant markup, no doubt).
