New Foamstars State of Play Trailer Reveals Open Beta

Foamstars got a bubbly new trailer today at Sony’s State of Play, revealing an open beta set to run September 29 to October 1 on PlayStation 5.

We got a chance to go hands-on with Foamstars at Gamescom earlier this year following its spring announcement. When we played, we expected it to be a bit Splatoon-like based on premise alone, but we weren’t prepared for just how badly the game wants to be Nintendo’s inky shooter. It mixes up some Persona and Jet Set Radio vibes, and the foam’s 3D elements do interesting things to vary up the map structure, but we have yet to see whether or not Foamstars will be able to fully differentiate itself.

Foamstars launches on PlayStation 4 and PS5 during the first quarter of 2024.
