Hey Community: Comments, Quizzes, and Playlist
Hello IGN readers, it’s your friendly neighborhood Community Lead once again. I’m excited to share a few updates around our recent community initiatives and updates — expect to see more of these in 2022!
Let’s Talk About…
We launched an article format in March that we are tentatively titling Let’s Talk About… These posts are your chance to share your stories with IGN staff and readers in the community. We asked you to share your favorite or funniest Elden Ring deaths in our first post. Mitchell Saltzman (our Elden Ring reviewer), Rebekah Valentine (News Reporter), and other IGN members joined the community conversation to share their own deaths and experiences. Join the discussion if you’d like to share your favorite Elden Ring death or story!
Here’s one of the discussions featuring user Dickey_Moe82 and their terrible luck with those very fun transport trap chests, and Torrent’s lack of immunity to fall damage.
Read this full conversation and other Elden Ring death stories here.
We’re looking forward to hosting more of these at a regular cadence as we look into growing the experience, too. So we hope you all will join in and share your stories with us going forward as we expand and grow this format!
Comments of the Week
Launching today, our Comments of the Week format is our way of highlighting some of our community’s best comments each week. Here are just a few of our favorites from the past couple of weeks.
TmSprague seems to have lost a little bit of time while being absorbed into Elden Ring.
Read the responses and other thoughts on Elden err.. Ghostwire Tokyo here.
KidGreenegene on the trend of all the subscriptions passes on the horizon.
For more fun takes on all the subscriptions coming to a home near you check out the full conversation.
User RaMsEritO, KathieLeeGifford, and Chantallen share their love and appreciation for all the great things we have in VideoGameLand.
For more users who understand that both ecosystems are great check it out here.
This spotlight will also evolve over time as we add more features to the comment system, so be on the lookout for those new additions.
How to get your comments featured in an IGN article:
Now you may have noticed the last comment we featured was also a featured comment. Some of you may be wondering how to get your comment featured in an article or selected for the next community blog, so we thought we’d share some tips. We are looking to highlight our consistently insightful, funny, and respectful users. Here are a few ways to help get your comments featured and possibly selected for our best Comments of the Week.
- Be Insightful – This doesn’t mean your comment needs to be 3 paragraphs long, but starting a conversation or pointing out something unique and informative about the topic is a great way to get noticed. We love additive commentary.
- Being Constructive – We understand not everyone will share the same opinions but, if you have feedback, positioning it with respectful alternative perspectives, solutions, or information instead of just complaints is very eye-catching.
- Ask & Answer – Asking & answering questions with genuine, thoughtful, positive, or helpful responses is a great way to get featured and give your comment time to shine.
- Be Funny – While these comments may not always add to the conversation in an insightful way, getting other users and staff to laugh at a joke can get your comment noticed. The one stipulation to this is to keep it reasonably clean! We have some younger readers, so making jokes that aren’t appropriate for all audiences may get you the likes, but it may not be able to be featured.
News Quizzes
If you’re anything like us over on the IGN team, you’re voracious weekly readers of the news. But there’s a lot of news out there, and we cover everything from games to movies to tech to some stuff in between (like science!). If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve recently debuted News Quizzes to see how well you kept up with all the stories from the week. Our seven-question quizzes might highlight bits of info from news or recently-reviewed or released properties that we’ve recently covered on IGN. Previous quizzes over the last few months were published on Fridays, but We’re moving them over to Mondays. You can find all our quizzes on the IGN Quiz home page.
Product updates
Finally, I want to highlight the work coming out of our Product team. We recently launched IGN Playlist to help you keep track of all your games in one place. IGN Playlist helps you track what you have, play, and beat, and create lists of games to share with others anywhere you like. Plus, rate games and see what others like about games. It is currently available for our Prime members, but it will be available to everyone in a few weeks! For more information on IGN Playlist, check out our handy product blog.
Keep an eye out for our next blog post, featuring a new selection of comments of the week and other updates happening at IGN. Finally, let us know what you are playing and/or watching this weekend. We might select a comment or two to be featured in our next blog.
