Loki Season 2 Prompts Speculation From Fans About the Renslayer Secret in Episode 3

Warning: This article contains full spoilers for Loki Season 2 Episode 3, which is now streaming on Disney+.

The third episode of Loki Season 2 caught up with Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s former TVA Judge, Ravonna Renslayer, but the tease of her secret past left fans with more questions than answers.

Episode 3 of Loki opens with Renslayer arriving in 1868 Chicago on the Sacred Timeline, where she meets up with Miss Minutes, who instructs her to drop a package containing the TVA handbook in the window of a young Victor Timely, the Kang variant glimpsed in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s post-credits scene.

Miss Minutes stays by Renslayer’s side throughout the episode, right through to its closing moments at the End of Time. Standing in front of the rotting corpse of He Who Remains, Miss Minutes reveals that she knows “a really big” secret about Renslayer before teasing, “I can tell you, but it’s gonna make you real angry.”

The episode then cut to the credits, leaving viewers to speculate over what Miss Minutes knows about Renslayer. One of the most popular theories is that Renslayer is a Kang variant, like Sylvie is a Loki variant. However, others think it could be regarding her relationship with Kang or some meddling from Miss Minutes.

Renslayer’s big secret was also a hot topic of debate on Reddit, where one user wrote: “Ravonna isn’t nearly as mad as I am about that cliffhanger,” to which someone replied: “I think it’s going to be that she’s a Kang variant. And Victor Timely is attracted to his variant. Just like how Loki is attracted to Sylvie.”

One person offered a different opinion: “I was thinking of a Loki variant who was from Earth (assuming the scene of her in a classroom was in Earth) and didn’t get adopted, so never learned magic, as that’d really upset her.” Another person chimed in: “I think the discussion between Victor and Miss Minutes was foreshadowing the fact that Ravonna is the body that another Kang variant gave her.”

Whatever the case, Renslayer has an “exciting” arc ahead of her. That’s according to producer Kevin Wright, who shared a few more breadcrumbs about the character and her dealings with He Who Remains in a recent conversation with GamesRadar.

“She has a rich history in the comics of playing multiple roles and being more than you think she’s initially going to be,” Wright said of Renslayer, adding: “There’s versions of the comics where it’s revealed she’s Kang, sometimes she’s working with Kang, sometimes she’s against Kang. Renslayer having her own motivations is exciting, and Gugu is so good that you just want to give her more and more.”

There is certainly more than meets the eye where Renslayer is concerned, and it’s only matter of time until the truth comes out, so you might want to keep watching. We’re currently at the halfway point, meaning only three episodes remain, including the season finale on November 9. You can read IGN’s review of Episodes 1-4 here.
