Deal Alert: Amazon Has a PNY GeForce RTX 4080 OC GPU for Below MSRP

Right now, there’s a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU that’s priced below MSRP. Amazon is offering the PNY GeForce RTX 4080 XLR8 Gaming VERTO EPIC-X RGB GPU (could they make that name any longer?) for only $1107.99, which is about $90 lower than the price of the stock RTX 4090 at launch. This is the “OC” model that has a very modest 45MHz boost overclock compared to the reference card (2550MHz vs 2505MHz).

This is the card we’d recommend for 4K gaming if you didn’t want to pony up $500 more for an RTX 4090. The RTX 4080 performs on par with AMD’s flagship GPU, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX… until you throw in ray tracing and DLSS. If either of those are enabled, the RTX 4080 performs noticeably better. Compared to previous generation cards, it’s about 50% more powerful than an RTX 3080 Ti. It also supports DLSS 3.0 (DLSS 2.0 + frame generation), something the RTX 30 series lacks, and that increases the performance gap for games that support it. Although its 16GB of RAM isn’t as much as the 4090, it’s far more than the 10GB found in the RTX 3080 and 12GB in the RTX 3080 Ti. That means it’s still a perfectly capable GPU for graphic workstation applications.
The PNY model boasts a massive 3 slot triple-fan cooler. That said, it’s one of the smaller RTX 4080 cards available, with only the original FE model being much smaller. That means it should fit in more cases than most other aftermarket 4080 cards. Is it worth it? If you game in 4K or high resolution VR, then yes, it’s worth it. If you play on anything less than 4K, let’s be honest, it’s totally NOT worth it.
