HP is offering a beastly HP OMEN 17 RTX 4090 equipped gaming laptop for under $2400! This is even more of an excellent price if you also consider the fact that the laptop’s also equipped with the newest 13th gen Intel Core i7-13700HX Raptor Lake CPU and a 17″ 2560×1440 display.

How powerful is the RTX 4090 GPU?
Let’s just say the RTX 4090 makes hardcore gaming on a laptop possible. The RTX 4090 is the most powerful mobile GPU ever, and by a huge margin. The HP OMEN 17 supplies up to 175W to the GPU. That means this is probably the fully enabled RTX 4090 GPU with a 150W TGP, not the gimped 80W version. It’s roughly equivalent to a desktop RTX 3090 GPU. If you’re looking for specific reviews or hands-on impressions, we’ve only found a few since 4090 laptops are still very new to the market. User “gizmosliptech” on reddit gives his opinion on almost this exact config and Techspot gives its impressions on a similarly specc’ed MSI GT77 RTX 4090 laptop.
These GPUs are only worth it with higher resolution displays
Although there are some 1080p laptops available, we think an RTX 40 series card is wasted on such a low resolution. That’s because the current RTX 30 series cards can handle this resolution beautifully already. The sweet spot is QHD (or QHD+) because it’s still noticeably sharper than 1080p on a 16″-18″ display and isn’t as graphically demanding as native 4K. Even still, you’re going to appreciate the extra power that the RTX 40 series GPU offers to drive the higher resolution.
Mobile RTX 40 series GPUs also support DLSS 3.0
RTX 40 series cards also support DLSS 3.0, which is essentially DLSS 2.0 plus frame generation. For games that support it (like Cyberpunk) this is a massive FPS increase over even DLSS 2.0. It’s pretty much a necessity on ray-traced modern games.
